After around 3400 miles and over 58 hours of driving we made it to Florida...but only for a moment...first a quick trip to Medellin, Colombia...more to come....
New Orleans a city of many extremes. It was really interesting to see so much diversity in the people and places. From the Garden District to the French Quarters to the Esplanade there was so much to experience. We had world famous beignets at Cafe Du Monde and got to hear an amazing New Orleans Style Jazz band jamming in Jackson Square.
It was a drizzly day and we only had a few hours in Austin before we hit the road but we found some visual gems on South Congress Street. Austin seems like a really great city. Hopefully I'll be back soon.
850 feet below the surface of the desert we entered another "alien" world. Ancient caves formed from sulfuric acid that dissolved the surrounding limestone. Another WoW!!!
After Albuquerque we drove up about 1 hour north to Santa Fe. I really loved the artistic and creative flair of the town. One amazing highlight was the Miraculous Staircase in Loretto Chapel.
Spent some time in The Old Town. It was a Sunday so lots of locals strolling around enjoying a beautiful day.
Day 2 on the road...Hoover Dam. Pretty spectacular engineering....but next stop is The Grand Canyon so I'm sure I'll be blown away even more.
Finally leaving LA after packing all day. We hit the road around 11:20PM. We decided to not push it on our first day so after 2 hours of driving we found a Motel 6 in Barstow, CA.
The first step in a long 2750 mile journey to Miami. I'm going to miss those tall skinny palm trees.
Hitting the road soon on a cross country adventure from LA > Miami
